Local Literacy in Vision supporters Saghi Maleki and Jesse Valencia co-chaired the recent inaugural “friendraiser” at Commonwealth restaurant.

Some 50 guests turned out to help raise awareness for the Literacy Project Foundation’s “Get Set Read” literacy programs that are serving schools throughout Southern California. Commonwealth owner Dave George was on hand to greet guests and provide hors d’oeuvres in the hip upstairs lounge.

The friendraiser was the kick-off of a guild that will stage lively events throughout the year, created as a philanthropic arm of the Literacy Project Foundation to bring together colleagues who share an interest in bringing the gift of literacy to underprivileged and struggling readers.
