Shopping, Dining, Giving Are All in the Card

What could be finer than shopping and dining at more than 100 of South Coast Plaza’s most popular boutiques and restaurants at a 20 percent discount, while at the same time supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County?

If you love to shop, dine or just do good, that’s exactly what you’ll experience for an entire week Oct. 12-18 if you purchase one of the celebrated “Angelitos Cards” offered by the Newport Beach-based Angelitos de Oro.

The best part: the cards cost a mere $60 and every penny goes directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County.

Even if you don’t have a philanthropic bone in your body, anyone who likes to shop will have a ball perusing the mall with an Angelitos Card. The potential for big savings while picking out holiday presents or a treat for yourself is huge. Just think of saving 20 percent off a bedazzling Bottega Veneta bag, a pair (or two) of Jimmy Choo’s, or this season’s latest sensation at Salvatore Ferragamo!

And if all that shopping gets your stomach to growling, you’ll save on dining, too.

Not a shopper?  Angelitos Cards are a great gift! Especially for anyone you suspect may be a “re-gifter” – it solves that problem pronto.

Angelitos de Oro is a quietly dynamic, local volunteer women’s auxiliary, which for the past 50 years has supported BBBSOC and its vital mentoring program that match adult and high school volunteers with boys and girls who are in need of a mentor and role model.

Thanks to this and other programs offered by BBBSOC, more than 1,500 at-risk Orange County children each year are given a chance to build self-esteem, improve their grades and rise above the challenges they face as they transition into adulthood.

“Every year, the Angelitos Card is becoming more popular with shoppers, as well as the boutiques and restaurants of South Coast Plaza who are our partners in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County,” says Jana Hackett, Angelitos de Oro president. “We are ever grateful for this support because of the increased demand on Big Brothers Big Sisters to serve a growing population of at-risk children right here in Orange County. They need our help now more than ever.”

Angelitos began in 1961, when Robert Guggenheim, who was serving on the Big Brothers Big Sisters board requested that Mrs. Spencer Honig and several of her friends form a local women’s auxiliary in support of the organization. She agreed, and to date Angelitos de Oro has generated more than $4.3 million for BBBSOC, affecting literally tens of thousands of young lives.

This will be the 10th year that Angelitos  de Oro is partnering with South Coast Plaza on this special fundraiser that combines the best of shopping, dining and charitable giving in a fun, yet pragmatic way.

A special Angelitos Card launch party – open to the public – will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., featuring select participating boutiques that will all be serving champagne and tasty bites provided by Quattro Café.

Cards are available at participating card-selling stores, at any South Coast Plaza concierge desk or by calling 949-642-9883. To find a complete list of all participating boutiques and restaurants, log on to www.angelitosdeloro.org.
