With the opening of the SOS Dr. Robert & Dorothy Beauchamp Children & Family Dental Center, nationally recognized Share Our Selves health center extends vital pediatric dental care to at-risk families in the Orange County community.

Thanks to a $1 million endowment from Richard and Theresa Meehan through Beauchamp Charities, SOS will be able to provide general and specialty dentistry to infants, children and adolescents, as well as caring for the oral health of pregnant patients and their growing babies. The SOS Dr. Robert & Dorothy Beauchamp Children & Family Dental Center anticipates serving upward of 5,000 patients in its inaugural year of services.

“Our goal is to provide restorative and preventive dental services to the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community while educating them about the importance of oral care as part of overall wellness, good nutrition and healthy habits,” said Karen L. McGlinn, chief executive officer. “In doing so, we’re honored to continue the work of Dr. Robert F. Beauchamp, who spent his career as a practicing dentist providing dental treatment to those who had been denied access. He and his wife pioneered affordable dental care for thousands of minorities and low-income families who lived in communities lacking local clinics, as well as those who simply couldn’t pay for services.”

The new center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and staffed with well-trained, multi-lingual pediatric dentists, registered dental assistants and administrative employees. In addition to treatment, SOS emphasizes oral health education to teach youth and their families about the importance of daily care, routine dental visits and proper food nutrition.

Beauchamp and his wife Dorothy, who made their home in Newport Beach, imparted their commitment to community service to their five children. Before Mrs. Beauchamp’s death, she requested they continue his legacy. Their son Richard and daughter-in-law Theresa Meehan Beauchamp earmarked the $1 million donation from Beauchamp Charities for SOS to build the new dental center.

The SOS Dr. Robert & Dorothy Beauchamp Children & Family Dental Center is at 307 Placentia Ave.
