Plane From JWA Crashes Near Barstow

A woman and two children were killed after a plane crashed Sunday near Barstow after departing from John Wayne Airport, authorities reported.

The small plane, believed to be a Cessna 210, is thought to have been headed to Henderson Executive Airport in Las Vegas, according to Ian Gregor, Public Affairs Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Pacific Division.

Officials have not identified who was on board the plane.

The bodies were badly burned, said Cindy Bachman, a public information officer for the San Bernardino’s Sheriff’s Department. The identification process will likely need to be through dental records, Bachman added., which typically takes some time.

The two children have been confirmed as one male and one female, according to the San Bernardino coroner’s office.

According to Fox 40 News in Sacramento, it is believed that on boar was licensed private pilot, Katie Morrison of Truckee, and her children Wyatt, 6, and Hannah, 5. Fox 40 News reported that Morrison’s husband confirmed it.

The plane crashed and burned about 2.5 miles southeast of Barstow-Daggett Airport at approximately 12:40 p.m.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported the aircraft was fully engulfed in flames.

The cause of the crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and may take several months to determine.

The FAA and the NTSB will investigate the accident.
