Twenty boats showed up for BYC’s first race in its popular annual “66” Series last weekend.

The Richley family’s Amante showed great light-air speed and steady tactics, correcting out to first overall by three minutes over Bob Kettenhoffen’s Beck 60, Dare.

Despite being a smaller Class B boat, Amante sailed a great race and was the third boat across the finish line, ahead of all but three of the Class A boats.

Amante is a classic Choate 48, and is no stranger to the winner’s circle.  The Richley family has been racing Amante out of LIYC, and there are likely few other boats that have raced more actively in Newport Harbor over the last 30 years.  Just last weekend she was a top finisher in NHYC’s Islands Race.

Other top finishers last weekend included David Gray’s Pendragon (American Legion YC) second to Dare in Class A; Taylor Grant’s Columbia 30, Exigent (NHYC), was second to Amante in Class B; John Szalzy’s Pussycat (UCISA) and Pete Johnstone’s Shock 35, Whistler (BYC), were first and second in Class C.
