Firefighters responded to a small electrical fire Tuesday at a residence in the first block of Coral Reef in Newport Coast, according to authorities.

Residents of the two-story home found moderate amounts of smoke in the home and called 911 around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a statement released by the Newport Beach Fire Department.

They exited the house and waited for NBFD to respond, which included six units and 16 personnel.

“Arriving units found an active fire around a saltwater fish tank,” NBFD Captain Brett Sutherland wrote in the statement.

The blaze was contained to at small area around the tank and quickly extinguished, NBFD reported.

The cause was determined to be an electrical failure connected to the tank.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
