Civic Center Wins Community Award

The Newport Beach Civic Center recently won Coast Magazine’s 2014 Community Award for best city project. The award was presented during a Feb. 3 event at AnQi Bistro in Costa Mesa. Councilmember Keith Curry accepted the award on behalf of Newport Beach.

The Civic Center edged out three other finalists in the City Projects awards category including a

community redevelopment project in Anaheim, Laguna Niguel’s new civic center, and Santa

Ana’s Triada affordable housing community.

“We’re delighted to receive a Coast Community Award,” said Mayor Rush Hill. “As an architect, I know and appreciate the quality of the other projects the Civic Center competed against in its category. Thank you Coast Magazine for honoring our community’s new civic center.”

In its award program, Coast described the Civic Center as “visually stunning” and “very user friendly.”

In addition to the City Project award, Coast presented Community Awards in categories including Arts, Business, Philanthropy, Educational, Environmental, Nonprofit, and more. Henry Segerstrom was honored with the Coaster Lifetime Achievement Award.
