The 12th Annual Newport Beach Film Festival opened this week to a packed theater and several A-list celebrities at Edwards Big Newport Cinemas.

A few of the big names on Thursday’s red carpet: Peter Fonda, Michael C. Hall, Robert Patrick, Mackenzie Phillips and Hal Ozsan.

The opening night film was “East Fifth Bliss,” starring Hall and Fonda. The film also features Lucy Liu, Chris Messina, Brie Larson, Sarah Shahi and Brad William Henke.

After the movie premiere, a reception was held in the Bloomingdale’s courtyard in Fashion Island and included a fashion show and local cuisine.

Gregg Schwenk, executive director and CEO of the film festival, spoke to the crowd before the movie, as did Newport Beach councilmembers Steve Rosansky, Rush Hill and Keith Curry.

The festival will screen more than 350 films from 45 countries and host 17 spotlight and special events. It will continue through May 5.
