UC Irvine in Tough Crowd at Nationals

The last teams for the ICSA Team Race Nationals have finally been seeded.  Local team UC Irvine looks to have quite a challenge fighting it out in their first round with teams that include four of the Top 5 picks: Georgetown, Charleston, Roger Williams, and Yale.

Sail1Design’s rankings for Team Race Nationals are as follows, but do include teams that did not qualify.  Their first round groups are noted:

  2. Boston College (Group 2)
  3. College of Charleston (Group 1)
  4. Roger Williams (Group 1)
  5. Yale (Group 1)
  6. St. Mary’s College of Maryland (Group 2)
  7. Hobart and William Smith (Group 2)

  9. Stanford (Group 2)

11. Naval Academy

12. University of South Florida (Group 2)

14. Wisconsin (Group 2)

Women’s Nationals will start off the show on May 23 with one day of Semi-Finals to determine the final nine qualifying teams.  UC Irvine will be fighting for one of those coveted spots.

Qualified teams include:

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Hobart & William Smith, University of Wisconsin, Boston College, Connecticut College, Western Washington University, Stanford, College of Charleston, and Tulane.

Teams vying for the last nine spots and sailing in the Semi-Finals:

Old Dominion University, Georgetown, U.S. Naval Academy, University of Pennsylvania, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, Fordham, Brown, Yale, Harvard, University of Rhode Island, U.S. Coast Guard, Portland State University, University of Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, University of South Florida, Eckerd College, and UC Irvine.
