June 8 is World Oceans Day, and ExplorOcean has found a fun and tasty way to mark the occasion.

To raise support and awareness of its educational programs, ExplorOcean has created Simply Sensational Sustainable Seafood, which will feature a seafood tasting, live entertainment, ocean-themed activities for children, and an interactive panel discussion.

The event is held June 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. and includes an interactive sustainable seafood panel discussion about how seafood is raised, caught, and cooked with speakers Debbie Johnson, director and administrative officer for Catalina Sea Ranch, LLC, Wendy Marshall, director of education and public programs at ExplorOcean, and Terese Pearson, owner and operator, Pearson’s Port Newport Beach.

After the discussion, enjoy a tasting social on the patio with appetizers, beer & wine, live steel drums, handmade home goods for sale, and activities for children.

“At the Simply Sensational Sustainable Seafood event, we will teach students and their parents what seafood sustainability really means,” said Wendy Marshall, Ed.D., director of education and public programs for ExplorOcean. “We hope by the end of the event, everyone there will understand the difference between wild-caught vs. farm-raised seafood and which options are available for their family tables.”

In addition to the interactive panel and seafood tasting, the Simply Sensational Sustainable Seafood event will include children’s ocean-themed activities and eco-friendly home goods available for purchase.

Cost for the event is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Children 10 and under are $5.

Purchase tickets online at explorocean.org or at the door.
