The city of Newport Beach will conduct a test of its emergency outdoor warning system at a higher decibel level compared to the regular monthly testing next week.
The higher volume test, scheduled for May 4 at noon, will allow staff to monitor and ensure that the sound is traveling to the designated coverage areas.
Since the system was installed 10 years ago, the monthly tests have been done at a low decibel setting.
The outdoor warning system is in place to provide immediate notification during any type of disaster or hazard when immediate action from the public is necessary.
