Four people were injured Monday in a single-vehicle traffic collision on University Drive, near MacArthur Boulevard, according to authorities.
Newport Beach fire and police were dispatched to the collision near University of California, Irvine, at 6:39 a.m., officials explained in a press release.
The first units to arrive found four patients in a single car that had crashed into a concrete pillar supporting a bridge. Three were quickly extricated while the fourth patient was trapped and required extrication tools, according to NBFD.
All four patients were transported to local area trauma centers.
Costa Mesa Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority assisted at the incident as well.
The cause of the accidents is under investigation.
