rodd-1New Zealand has arrived in Fashion Island—well, at least its menswear is here. On Oct. 6, the New Zealand-based menswear brand Rodd & Gunn opened its first U.S. flagship store at Fashion Island.

According to information from the Irvine Company, Rodd & Gunn is known for its traditionally tailored shirts, high quality knitwear, classic polo shirts, Italian leather shoes, bespoke leather luggage and stylish accessories.

They’re also committed to sourcing the finest yarns and fabrics from around the world, which means their collection is made of premium Italian fabrics, luxe linens, denims, cottons, wools and leathers.

“Rodd & Gunn’s impressive attention to detail with its menswear – from its exceptional fabrication to 100 percentrodd-3 Italian cotton shirting and expertly crafted luggage – makes it a terrific addition to our collection of top-tier retailers at Fashion Island,” said Easther Liu, chief marketing officer for Irvine Company Retail Properties, in a press release.

According to Rodd & Gunn, the fall line is inspired by the rugged coastline of southern New Zealand, and yields “luxuriously soft knits and functional fabrics with weather and wind resistant coatings, as well as outerwear with urban design, updated patterns, reversible jackets and re‐imagined classics.”

“We jumped at the chance to open a store at Fashion Island here in Newport Beach – we feel the Newport Beach community embodies the ideal Rodd & Gunn customer,” said Mike Beagley, managing director for Rodd & Gunn.

Rodd & Gunn is at 401 Newport Center Dr., Newport Beach, next to ‘Lette Macarons, near Nordstrom.

Cut-a-Thon for Animal Rescue

I have two pampered pooches at home, but not every dog is lucky to have a good home.

That’s why I’m looking forward to a special Cut-a-Thon at Shear Attitude Hair Salon in Lido Marina Village on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Cut-a-Thon benefits Newport Beach-based Paw Prints in the Sand Animal Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehoming and rehabilitating abused, abandoned, neglected and stray companion animals. Paw Prints in the Sand is an all-volunteer, all-foster organization committed to placing animals in loving, responsible, committed forever homes.

The Cut-a-Thon is a soft grand opening of Shear Attitude’s newly redecorated salon. Special pricing of $40 for men’s and $50 for women’s haircuts, including blow-out and style, will be offered with 50 percent of all proceeds donated directly to Paw Prints.

You’ll also have opportunities to win raffle prizes and enjoy food and drinks throughout the day. Appointments are appreciated but not necessary to participate.

Please call (949) 723-4688 to make a donation or schedule your appointment. Shear Attitude Hair Salon is at 3416 Via Lido.

I’ve learned that Shear Attitude was established in 1990 by stylist and owner Nancy Johnson, a master colorist with over 25 years of beauty experience and a graduate of The Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts specializing in theatrical makeup. She has a team of professionals that specialize in hair, skin care and make up services and techniques.

Giving back to the community is also a priority for Nancy. She dedicates her time and talent to various charitable organizations including Human Options, American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better Program, United States Marine Corps’ Wives of The Wounded Warrior Battalion, Salus Hospice, and Paws in the Sand Animal Rescue.

And if you haven’t been to the refreshed Lido Marina Village, what are you waiting for? The Lido Marina Village has returned to life and now has 16 fashion boutiques, retail stores and restaurant open, with more on the way this fall. Visit lidomarinavillage.com.
