Level Five Executive, Inc. a consulting firm in Newport Beach specializing in board dynamics, is presenting a seminar entitled “How to Keep Your Board United in Times of Adversity” on Monday, March 7 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at The Center Club in Costa Mesa.

According to Level Five, 46 percent of boards have no plan in place for responding to activist investors, as reported in the 2015-2016 National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Public Governance Survey.

The seminar is coordinated by Dr. Lola Gershfeld, founder of Level Five Executive, Inc. Her expertise lies in consulting with Fortune 1000 boards and C-level executives to create environments that keep directors engaged, participative and focused.

Millions of dollars can be at stake, along with the reputation and future of a company based on how a board functions, especially during times of adversity.

The 2016 Board Dynamics Session will prepare you in your role as CEO, Chairman, Lead Director, or Director with strategies to bring and keep your board united and strong during times of adversity.

Participants will learn how to create an environment for your board to perform and respond well to challenges, re-engage board members during times of disconnect, increase trust when trust is being questioned, address criticism when experiencing conflict, move forward effectively with essential tasks, reunite a divided board, maintain open lines of communication (even when the board is working under stressful conditions), strengthen board relationships and increase company loyalty, and address challenges board members experience when interacting with shareholder activists

This insightful seminar will feature a panel of regional experts, including:

  • Susan Swenson, director, Wells Fargo, Harmonic Inc. & Spirelli Communications, CEO, Novatel. She will share her unique methods for creating environments in which boards thrive, even during times of adversity.
  • Michael Gallagher, director at Allergan, and Cary Hyden, a partner at Latham & Watkins, LLP, who both have real-world experience in an attempted hostile takeover with Allergan not too long ago.
  • Dr. Lola Gershfeld, CEO & Founder of Level Five Executive. She will provide emotional focused perspective on board dynamics to the discussion including cutting-edge information on brain function and hormone responses.
  • Ed Merino, CEO and moderator, an Executive Board Coach with more than 25 years of experience helping CEOs and boards work together.

The panelists will share case studies based on their own experiences and offer practical know-how to apply action steps that will help CEOs and Board Chairmen reengage their directors and strengthen behaviors that are necessary for a more functional, dedicated board.

Cost of the seminar is $99 and includes a continental breakfast. For more information, visit levelfiveexecutive.com.
